Returning crew members have been remarkably reticent about their adventures,
so, let your imagination fill in the blanks of what they don’t want to talk about ;-)

and
Denise’s FULL trip report (1/29/04).
See what the
weather is going to be like for the trip up the Californian coastline.

I talked to Paul yesterday morning. The Sat phone cut out after about 2 minutes of talking, but I was able to get the following:
He said it was really calm and they had motored most of the way to Turtle Bay (where they stopped for a night).
There was more wind after Turtle Bay so they were sailing quite a bit.
He was 190 miles south of San Diego at about 8:30 am.

He said he'd probably get to San Diego on Friday morning.
They have run out of boat water, for showering & washing, but still have plenty of drinking water.
A few days ago he said he had stuff to take care of in San Diego so he would probably stay a week or so.
…..I might go down this weekend but I want to talk to him first.

" The Cariad left Cabo at 9:00am Tuesday the 20th. Winds and seas were extremely calm, so the journey to San Diego started with motoring. If that continues for some time, they will have to stop in Turtle Bay for fuel. The lack of wind foils the idea of heading way out for minimal tacking. Rob is bummed 'cuz he wanted the experience of heavy weather. Oh well."

"It's about 10:00 pm in Cabo and I leave tomorrow morning. I'll re-send the file when I get to San Diego in about 10 days."

"I'm in Cabo now and here is the latest Captain's Log*. I'll send back a bunch of pictures with Brian and Andrea. They leave Cabo on Thursday. They also have a bunch of photos too.……I'll be in San Diego sometime around the 1st of Feb. From there, I plan on only doing day sails when the weather is favorable. While I wait for the weather, we'll just hang out and party in the marinas. Wendy may even drive down to LA to meet me and certainly she will come down for the weekend in Monterey."

"The Cariad left PV yesterday (1-15) at 8:00am heading towards Cabo. ETA is late Saturday afternoon."
"There's been an addition to the crew from Cabo to SD - Rob's wife's cousin".

The weather report today looks encouraging. We plan on leaving tomorrow morning or perhaps even tonight.
They predict winds no stronger than 20 knots but still unsettled and variable. Sitting around PV in the rain is no fun. At least the temps are still in the 70s. Listening to all the weather the trip up Cabo doesn't appear to be too bad. It's just against the wind and against the current. Most folks tend to go offshore quite a way and that's what I plan to do to.

From: Cariad Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 9:06 AM

We're stuck here in PV waiting for better weather to cross over to Cabo.
There is some unsettled weather between here and there and they predict 20-30 knot winds.
It's been raining here for two days now and they forecast rain for the next three days.
I don't care about the rain, but am hoping for better wind to make the crossing.
I hope to send back pictures with Denise on a CD.
